The research

The questionnaire was designed in collaboration with the FES offices in Latin America and the Caribbean, a group of experts from various countries in the region and validated with the young participants of the ManiFEState Network.

The survey was conducted among people between 15 and 35 years of age in 14 countries in the region. The questionnaire was completed by means of a virtual form, which was answered between January and February 2024. The questionnaire was administered in Spanish in all countries except Brazil, where it was administered in Portuguese.

The survey was conducted through YouGov, an international online technology company that focuses on research and analysis of public opinion data. The methodology used was online sampling through web panels. All respondents gave informed consent. Minors had parental consent before starting the survey.

The sampling quotas of this survey comprise gender and age groups, region of the country where they reside, type of area where they live, and the type of area where they live. (urban, suburban, or rural)The following variables are also included: education, education, employment status, and a news attention variable. In addition, the social class analysis was constructed from the ESOMAR socioeconomic classification model, based on socioeconomic variables of the heads of household (education, occupation) and purely economic variables (income, asset ownership).

Argentina (n = 2007, moe: ± 2.5)Costa Rica (n = 1149 , moe: ± 4.4)Peru (n = 2001 , moe: ± 3.2)
Bolivia (n = 1103 , moe: ± 4.4)Ecuador (n = 2004 , moe: ± 3.3)Dominican Republic (n = 1132 , moe: ± 4.7)
Brazil (n = 2024 , moe: ± 2.5)Honduras (n = 1100 , moe: ± 4.7)Uruguay (n = 1108 , moe: ± 3.8)
Chile (n = 2002 , moe: ± 7)Mexico (n = 2001 , moe: ± 3.0)Venezuela (n = 1103, moe: ± 3.8)
Colombia (n = 2004, moe: ± 2.8)Panama (n = 1109, moe: ± 3.9)

The sampling frame was constructed using stratified sampling of each country, created based on the 2021 LAPOP Americas Barometer, with selection within strata by weighted sampling with replacements. The weights range from 0.04 to 6.16 with an average of 1 and a standard deviation of 1.09. The margin of error (a 95% confidence interval) for a percentage sample p based on the subset sample is approximately 4.4%.

The survey is nationally and not regionally representative. Therefore, we recommend that when reviewing the data viewers, do not make inferences for the entire region without first reviewing the national data.
